GATEWAY UNIVERSITY’S INSTRUCTIONAL VISION

The Founding Instructional Team of Gateway University will be visionary instructional leaders who will pursue a vision of learning centered on the creation of relevant and authentic experiences for all students. Our goal is to help students develop the capacity to understand content that is complex, ambiguous, provocative, and personally or emotionally challenging; and ultimately direct their own learning. Authentic challenge is not defined by the assignment — it comes from what students do. It is not standard across a curriculum — it is individual, to each student’s needs. This is the result of work that challenges students’ thinking in new and interesting ways. It occurs when they are encouraged toward a sophisticated understanding of fundamental ideas and are driven by curiosity to discover what they don’t know. At Gateway, that means aspiring to something greater than making difficult work for our students. We seek to take students to that intersection of encouragement and engagement, where they confront ideas and problems that are meaningful. Where we stretch their thinking and unleash in them a love of deep knowledge and learning.
