Founder, President, and CEO

Dr. Sosepriala Dede knew that if he had the opportunity to build a new school for the city of Memphis, the approach would have to be revolutionary. With undergraduate and graduate degrees in education, and more than 10 years of hard work in the field itself, Sosepriala created Gateway University from his experience as a school student, teacher, program director, assistant principal, principal, and, most recently, executive director. He knows the teaching methods that work, the ones that don’t, and the ones that deserve a chance to propel Memphis students into successful futures as lifelong learners and leaders. Sosepriala has already led entire graduating classes to 100% college acceptance rates, formed strategic partnerships with colleges and universities, and secured funding and scholarships for early college programs. As a lifelong learner himself, Sosepriala received his Doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy from Vanderbilt University in 2017. Most recently, he served as the Executive Director of College Career & Workforce Development at Gestalt Community Schools. Sosepriala firmly believes Gateway University will instill a drive in its scholars to constantly pursue individual greatness, and will change the country’s view on what quality public education can and should look like for communities nationwide.
